The biggest challenge in construction? It’s not always what you’d expect. Over the years, I’ve learned that managing construction in live environments requires more than technical expertise. And that goes for anything from a whisky distillery to a listed building. It’s about solving problems before they happen. Take distilleries, for example. These are operational facilities where downtime often isn’t an option. Every decision has to balance precision and efficiency without disrupting production. Or listed buildings. You’re restoring structures while preserving history. That means navigating restrictions, working with delicate materials, and collaborating with specialists to get it right. Here’s what helps overcome these challenges: 1. Detailed planning: You need a clear roadmap but the flexibility to adapt when the unexpected happens. 2. Communication: When teams, clients, and specialists are aligned, issues are resolved faster. 3. Commitment to quality: Cutting corners isn’t an option. Every detail matters. The goal at Colorado Construction is always the same: To ensure we are 'Building Excellence, Creating Legacy'. What’s your tip(s) for overcoming project challenges?

The Hardest Button to Button In today’s construction world, things aren’t as straightforward as they used to be. The lines between seasoned professionals and those without jobsite or trade experience are blurring, and it’s getting harder to validate ourselves in the industry. For those of us who’ve spent years learning the ropes, whether through hands-on trade work, managing jobsite chaos, or solving problems that no manual could prepare us for, it’s tough to see the rise of professionals whose skills don’t always align with the realities of construction. This isn’t about gatekeeping or resisting change. It’s about making sure that experience, safety, and practicality don’t take a backseat. Our industry thrives on innovation, but true progress comes from merging new ideas with the hard-earned knowledge of those who’ve been in the trenches. The challenge? Balancing respect for all contributions while ensuring that expertise rooted in real-world experience continues to lead the way. It’s a hard button to button, but it’s one we must fasten tightly to build a stronger, more credible future for construction. What are your thoughts? How do we bridge this gap between experience and new perspectives in our field?
